Poverty has been so rampant in Cuba and many people have come up with several ways and suggestions on how best to eradicate poverty. There has been many Castro who tend to justify poverty that has been rampant in Cuba. They claim that, the same poverty can still be found in other countries. This can be true but the only difference is that, this country in particular, suffered revolution and this led to mass death. It also led to millions of refugees and there was a loss in liberty. This has led to long term poverty for over 47 years (De Quesada 234-256).There is a serious economic problem in the country and this is what leads to the whole problem of poverty. The problem all started as an alleviate but the issue has continued to be prololific especially in the island population.

It all began in the year 1950’s when Cuba was ranked among the third world war (Meeks 456). Most of its population was leaving below the poverty line. There was big gap between the poor and the rich. While the poor were drowning in poverty, the rich were continuing to grow much richer. Their government was not planned and thus it was not able to control the entire population. The trade between other countries was minimal and almost nil. This really affected their economy.
Issues of Poverty
During the past years, Cuba has never been famous in any way in terms of food production. As much as they had enough land, the lands were not fertile enough to produce various foods to their markets. This issue impacted more poverty in the land. The environment too was not conducive enough to plant any crop. Cuba also felt the impact of recession in their economy. As much as other countries are trying so much to control recession in their country, Cuba is not in a position to control. This is because, it relies so much on the imported goods and most of these imported goods are basic (Sherrow 456). Cuba is among the communist states in the whole world. Being an island country, the government has taken a full responsibility f ensuring the whole country is controlled. The government also ensures the control of schooling systems in the country.

They also ensure the control of all the colleges and all the health centers and the medical cares. In Cuba, there are free medical care services. This has led to a strain in the government finances. This strain has increased poverty at a higher rate. The gap between the rich and the poor is at a higher rate increasing poverty in the country (Henken 789 – 897). From recent research, it has been evident that even the wealthiest person in Cuba is considered to be poor when rated in other countries. In previous years, the island was never known in the food production. The food that was produced was not able to sustain the entire population. The environment in Cuba is not even conducive for food production. The farmlands are not enough to ensure adequate farming is going on in the area.
The land in Cuba is not just conducive for growing various types of food. Due to recession in the land, Cuba has to pay an extra amount for every product they purchase. The country depends so much on the imported products. This makes it very expensive for a normal consumer. It is always cheaper when consumers are able to get most of the commodities locally. When there is totally no option for local products, the outside markets takes advantage and makes maximum us of the opportunity (Merton 456-786). The products will be imported but due to the import tax and other levies, the price of the commodity drastically increases.

Due to all these problems, Cuba government was on the front line to ensure the launch of rectification campaign. This campaign aimed at amending most of the issues that had been neglected. The income for the citizens in Cuba was resolved not to be taxed. This was to allow consumers to be able to purchase the imported products. This was basically to ensure success in the food production and also the resource management was to be continued. In the year 1999, crop yield improved from 16 to 18. Some of the major crops that improved their yields include cabbage, beans, pepper and potatoes. The graph continued t increase until in the year 2002, there was a record of 3.4 million food produced. This was a 90% increase from the previous years. This improved yield has improved the diets of most of the Cuban people (Aelin 213-234). Trough different plantation of vegetables, it has led to the realization of different he4rbal medicine.
Sustainability Methods in Cuba
In the past visits, there has been so many ways of sensitizing people o how to manage poverty in Cuba. This must however be linked together with the sustainability method. If poverty is eradicated, it should also be lined together to its sustainability measures. Various environmentalists have come together to ensure that environment in Cuba is improved and is made to become a productive island. There have been so many debates on how best to apply environmental sustainability (ElGhonemy 456). The natural resources that were available in the Cuba Island were destroyed by the Spanish landowners. During this period, most of their forests were burnt down and they were left into ashes. This destroyed the productivity of the land leaving it a bare island. Cuba was later transformed into a land of sugar exports, coffee and tobacco exporters. The burnt land was washed away by the rains leaving only bare rocks in the land. Cuba is the only country that focuses on the sustainability that is moving towards basically food and health.

After the Revolution Sustainability
There was revolution and later a gradual development in the island of Cuba. Revolution tends to eradicate poverty illiteracy and unemployment. Cubans have withstood hostility for quite a long time from United States and other parties. Cuba people have learnt ways on how best to withstand the hostility in their land. Applying of yardsticks is one of the economic ways to assess Cuban society (Rigdon 786). Various commentators have concluded that revolution has completely failed to pull together the people of Cuba out of their poverty life. Such criticism has not considered other many factors in context. For instance, they have failed to consider the fact that Cuban state has given a guarantee to their entire citizen (De Quesada 678-743). Though the food provided is expensive, the government has ensured that the food is in provision. To ensure that the consumers are not so much loaded the government has ensured that the incomes are not taxed and other services that can be provided by the country is found at a very cheaper price.
Free Healthcare and Free High-Quality Education
Cuba changed itself and stopped being a neo colony. This made it to become an independent state. This process ensured that the country was having a leading indicator of development. It is therefore evident that Cuba is the only country that has attained its sustainable development (Quiroga 345). There are so many other countries that are not able to provide free healthcare t their citizens. Healthcare is like a necessity to the country and it should be provided free of charge. Former Soviet collapse led to the collapse of the entire foreign trade in Cuba. When a government provides healthcare and education free to its citizen, then we can say it has a sustainable development.
Humanity Nature Relationship
According to the ecological thinking, crises are believed to be interrelated with one another. On cannot conceive for sustainability development before dealing with the issues at hand. To achieve the sustainable development, it is essential first to check on the issues at hand that affects a normal citizen in the country.
This was also expressed in the speech given by Fidel Castro. There are other many initiatives that also contribute in a big way towards development. Biotechnology and animal food is among the development program that contributes to development in a big way (Falcoff 657-675). With these entire incorporated and put in place, there is an outcome of good health, better education, accessibility t water and electricity. It is these that we refer to development. Development is not all abut the buildings but the essential services that are available to the citizens. When individuals are sensitized and shown how best they can be productive and participate in the economy, then it can be said that there is development.
It has been evident that Cuba relies so much on the imported oil. Over 10 million tones were used before the year 1989. There have been many efforts in the land to ensure that other alternatives are used (Corbett 345). Different technologies have been put into lace to ensure that the citizens of the Island do not strain so much when it comes to the oil consumption.
Among the aim of their revolution was basically to reduce poverty and income inequality. This has however been seen to be persistent and ever increasing ever since the year 1990. When Comecon collapsed, their economy suffered a great deal. The issue of poverty remains a big problem in Cuba. Cuba is considered to be the most egalitarian when it is compared with the most parts of the world. There is a lot of inequality in the country that is making the country to change so fast. There is a lot of discrepancy in terms of earnings.
To achieve sustainability in most developing countries is a big challenge and it only needs significant political transformation. This must be linked together with the economic and the social transformation. Theses are the only factors that will ensure sustainability. When a country is in the process of ensuring sustainability it should be ready to face many challenges that always come hand in hand with the changes. While the government my struggle to ensure political stability for instance, it may be faced with various rejections from other opponents in politic (Aelin 324-456). This can drag the process of sustainability.
Cuba has recorded a history of over years while working in a harmonized environment. This is one of the main factors that have made them to realize the sustainable development (De Quesada 456). Cuba therefore becomes a living example of increased revelation. It has shown its possibility of living with dignity whether there is poverty or not. In most developing countries there has been an incidence where people are never peaceful due to poverty in the land. As much as Cuba experience seems to be unique, it serves as a better example to be used by most of the developing countries. Their have been political stability in the area despite the fact that there is poverty.
